confession time

thought eating less meant I was doing better.

friend! I was cleaning the kitchen last week—
hands in the sink, steam rising, dinner dishes clinking—
when a thought popped into my head:

“You’re doing good. You didn’t eat much today.”

And it stopped me cold.

Because I used to live by that thinking.
If I skipped breakfast, I felt proud.
If I said no to carbs, I felt in control.
If I made it to 2pm on coffee, I felt… disciplined.

But also?

I was crashing by 3.
Snapping at my kids.
Craving everything in sight.
Then ending the night in the pantry, shame spiral and all.

That was me being “good.”

Somewhere along the way, I picked up the lie:
Less food = more worth.

But lately, I’ve been unraveling that belief.
Feeding myself more consistently.
Eating before I’m starving.
Letting breakfast be part of my morning again—without guilt.

And what’s wild?
I feel better now than I ever did back when I was “doing better.”

More stable.
More steady.
More like me.

So here’s what I’m learning:

Fueling yourself is not a failure. It’s freedom.
Your body doesn’t need to be punished to be trusted.
It needs to be fed.

If you’ve been skipping meals or pushing through hunger,
you’re not broken—you’re just following a rule that never worked.
