Everything you need for fitness is already in your house
Fitness on a Budget (my $0 transformation story)
Let's face it, friend!,
we'd all love to sign up for the gym, but that can cost a pretty penny.
And while I have gym access at no cost, that isn't the same for everyone. That's why I'm a big advocate for using what you have around your home to stay in shape.
But here's where I'm going to be completely honest with you:
I didn't always think this way. I used to be one of those people who thought "real" workouts only happened in gyms with fancy equipment and mirrors everywhere.
Very much giving "I need special stuff to be valid" energy.
Then COVID in 2020 forced me to adapt my workout routine. Gyms closed, equipment was sold out everywhere, and I was stuck at home wondering if I'd lose all my progress.
That's when I realized I'd been completely wrong about what it takes to stay in shape.
Here's what COVID lockdown taught me about home fitness:
Your couch is a piece of equipment. Step-ups, incline push-ups, tricep dips. I did full workouts using just my couch during those long months at home.
Water jugs become dumbbells. Fill them with water for lighter weight, sand for heavier. I created a whole set that cost nothing and adjusted to whatever I needed.
Laundry becomes resistance training. Carrying baskets up stairs, holding detergent bottles during squats. I was getting stronger while doing chores I'd do anyway.
Stairs become cardio equipment. Running up and down for interval training. Better than any stair climber machine and it was already in my house.
The floor is all you need for core work. Planks, crunches, leg raises - gravity provides all the resistance required.
What surprised me most: I wasn't just maintaining my fitness during lockdown. I was actually getting stronger and more creative with my workouts.
I wasn't trying to replicate my gym routine at home. I was discovering what worked in my actual living space.
Here's what I learned: The best home workouts don't try to copy gym equipment. They use what's naturally available and make it work.
You don't need to spend money to move your body effectively. You just need to stop thinking that fitness only counts in certain places with certain gear.
Try this: Look around your house right now. What could you use for exercise? Your stairs, your walls, your furniture - it's all potential equipment.
