I wore a weighted vest for 3 months (here's what actually happened)

I'd been leaving gains on the table for years.

In partnership with

friend!

I thought my walking routine was great until I strapped on 20 pounds and discovered I'd been leaving gains on the table for years.

Okay, confession time.

I bought a weighted vest a couple months ago and honestly? I was skeptical.

Like, how much difference could 20 extra pounds really make when I'm already walking 5-6 days a week?

Turns out... a LOT.

And not in the ways I expected.

Here's what 3 months of weighted walking actually taught me:

Your bones are basically waiting for you to challenge them

Regular walking is great. Weighted walking is next level. The extra load forces your bones to adapt and get denser. Which means stronger bones without having to think about it. Your future self will thank you when you're 70 and not worried about breaking a hip.

Your metabolism gets a serious upgrade

Here's the thing nobody tells you - weighted walking doesn't just burn more calories during the workout. It keeps your metabolism elevated for HOURS afterward. I'm talking that energized feeling that lasts way longer than your typical walk. Science is cool like that.

You get strong in ways that actually matter

This isn't gym strength. This is "carry all the groceries in one trip" strength. "Pick up your toddler without your back screaming" strength. Real life strength that shows up when you need it most.

My current routine (because you asked):

5 min warm-up walk 10 min steady pace (you should be able to talk but feel it) 5 min faster pace (breathing harder but not dying) 3 min walking lunges + bodyweight squats 2 min cool-down

Start where you're at: Beginner: 10 lbs, stick to flat ground Intermediate: 15-20 lbs, add some hills Advanced: 20+ lbs, embrace the challenge

I posted a YouTube short of me doing this routine and let me tell you - watching me try to look composed during those final lunges is peak entertainment.

Pro tip: Do this first thing in the morning or right after work. 25 minutes total. Done.

You'll probably become insufferable about weighted vests like I have. You've been warned.
