My husband thinks I'm addicted to sports.
And honestly? He's not wrong.
Tuesday netball training, Thursday netball training, games scattered throughout the week. Last Sunday I dragged him to watch me play softball.
"Baby," he said, "maybe slow down?"
I looked at him like he'd suggested I stop breathing.
Here's what he doesn't understand: I spent years thinking fitness meant suffering indoors. Treadmills, weight machines, fluorescent lighting, and mirrors everywhere.
Then I remembered what it felt like to play outside.
The first time I spiked a volleyball under actual sunlight instead of gym lights? That changed everything. My body wasn't just exercising - it was competing, celebrating, working with teammates toward something bigger.
Fresh air hits different. Your lungs work harder, but in a good way. You're not watching a clock countdown - you're playing until the game ends.
Here's what outdoor sports gave me back: The joy of using my body for something FUN instead of obligatory.
You don't need to join competitive leagues like me. But maybe try shooting baskets at a local court. Hit a tennis ball against a wall. Take your kids to kick a football around, and yes you have to kick with them too.
Your body was made to move outside. Not just survive indoor fitness routines.
